What Is a School’s Responsibility for Protecting Students Against Sexual Violence? [Video]

Video Transcript

Schools have a responsibility to protect students from sexual predators, including—and especially—their teachers and other employees. So, schools have to supervise their teachers. They have to have policies in place so that the teachers understand, and the students understand, what’s appropriate conduct in that relationship between a teacher and a student. It’s about letting students know what their rights are, monitoring the teachers, doing background checks, and taking complaints seriously. If someone expresses that they’re uncomfortable, a school has to take that really seriously.
