Meet Thomas Reyda, Partner at Cutter Law P.C.

Video Transcript

My name is Tom Reyda. I am from the California Bay Area suburbs, specifically the Alameda Creek area, where I grew up. I attended Berkeley Law and graduated in 2016.

My first experience with the legal field was actually defending myself in a turning violation ticket. The competitiveness of arguing my case in front of the court convinced me that this was something I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life. It wasn’t until later in my career in education that I realized I wanted to turn that competitiveness to the benefit of my clients and plaintiffs. Cutter Law is the perfect place to do that.

Cutter Law has a rich, long history of representing Americans and Californians who have been wronged by systemic problems. This is the place to handle the cases that I love to work on.

Elder abuse is a broad term that covers a lot of situations. In our practice, we focus on facilities and homes that have a custodial relationship with patients and residents. When these custodial responsibilities fail and people get seriously hurt—often because of bad business decisions—that’s where we come in. That’s the type of elder abuse that we are able to address and correct.

At Cutter Law, most people have a personal connection with an elder in their life that drives them in a substantial way. I had that connection with my grandfather, who lived with us half the year. He ultimately became a hoarder, and we went through a long period of cleaning out his home and getting him stable and safe.

It’s fascinating to me how people can be vulnerable in many ways, but with the right help and attention, they can thrive. That personal experience makes me feel that these cases are powerful and meaningful. That’s why I love what I do.
