Is a Store Liable for Customer Injuries? Margot Cutter Explains
Video Transcript
Under California premises law, stores can be liable when their customers are injured on the premises. So, for example, you sometimes see places put up caution wet floor signs after they mop. That’s because they know that they’ve created a hazard that could be dangerous for customers. So, in some circumstances, stores can be liable when people are hurt on their premises. Other dangerous conditions that are sometimes in stores are spills. They have liquid spills, or produce can be on the floor. They can become a slipping hazard. Additionally, in store parking lots, sometimes you see tripping hazards such as uneven pavement, unsafe, unpainted curbs. The store is responsible for making sure that the premises are safe for folks to come and walk around and enjoy their services.
