The 2017 California wildfires are now considered the deadliest and most destructive fires in recent history.
Here are some sobering facts about the fires:
- At least 42 people have been confirmed dead
- At least 6,000 homes have been destroyed
- Thousands of residents have been displaced
- 22 California wineries have been badly damaged
- 601 commercial property losses have been reported
- 3,000 automobile losses have been reported
Although many of the fires have been contained, these numbers can easily change as the fires continue. It may take months to know the full economic impact of the fires.
Victims may be eligible for compensation
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) is believed to be responsible for the fires. Initial reports indicate the company failed to maintain power lines, allowing some of the fires to start.
Property owners who have lost property due to the fire may be eligible for significant compensation. It is advisable to take prompt action due to the magnitude of the fire.
