Uber is responsible for sexual assault that happens in their rides because they prioritized hiring more and more drivers at the expense of hiring quality drivers—people who were safe to employ as drivers.
They do a background check, but it’s not a thorough background check. The drivers aren’t fingerprinted, so there’s really not the type of in-depth check that would reveal a serious criminal background.
